Welcome to Luther Burbank Middle School

At the Luther Burbank Middle School, we join together in partnership with our community to foster life-long curiosity and love for learning. Our collective purpose is to build wisdom, knowledge, respect, responsibility, and compassion by engaging the head, hands, and heart of each one of our students. We embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and we hold high expectations for all learners so that each may achieve to his or her fullest potential.                            ~ Laura Friend, Principal

arrowsPrincipal's Update
As was predicted, we had our first December snowfall this weekend. The potential for more snow is on our doorstep as we head towards the “official” first day of winter next week. While I know we have many snow lovers in our midst, I’m not certain I’m ready for the long winter haul ahead. With that said, the weather forecast is a timely reminder to write with our district protocols for the cancellation and delayed opening of school. Decisions regarding school closings are made by the superintendent’s office with the primary purpose of keeping our students and staff safe on the road. Oftentimes these decisions are challenging to make with quickly changing, and often unpredictable, weather patterns. The evening before and early morning of a weather event, the superintendent is in contact with neighboring superintendents, the NRSD Director of Facilities, and Lancaster, Bolton, and Stow DPW superintendents to make a collaborative decision in the best of our students and staff in light of the weather information at hand. Should a decision be made that impacts school, an announcement of a closing or a delay will be communicated via SchoolMessenger and local tv and radio stations. The information will also be posted on the front page of the NRSD website. Families are asked to not call the school or Lancaster police department to learn if school has been cancelled or has a delayed opening. For SchoolMessenger purposes, please help us by ensuring that all of your family’s emergency contact information is current. This includes cell phone numbers, home and work phone numbers, and email addresses. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation. As Ralph Waldo Emerson so aptly stated: “The hard soil and four months of snow make the inhabitants of the northern temperate zone wiser and abler than his fellow who enjoys the fixed smile of the tropics." So, stay warm and remain wise!
