BMS Library - About the Library

The Luther Burbank Middle School Library is open every day during school hours. Most days it remains open until 3:00 p.m. for students to do homework, research, or just read!

Our collection of books, audio books, reference materia, and videos totals approximately 10,000. In addition, we subscribe to some databases, 19 magazines, and the Worcester Telegram and Gazette. We also have access to numerous databases, including Grolier On-Line Encyclopedia, through our affiliation with the Central Massachusetts Regional Library System (CMRLS). Students can access these, if they have a library card, by going to our On-Line Catalogs and General Reference links.

Other internet resources can be accessed by going to our Grade-level Curriculum links. These are divided by subject area and curriculum content.

    The New Year is off to an exciting beginning!  Over the vacation I processed approximately 1,000 new books! (I did have help from my two children…it’s so nice having them home from collegeJ)  They have been on display for all of the teachers and students to view.  There really is something for everyone!
The 8th Grade classes are into full swing with their research projects in ELA and their Decade Projects in Social Studies.  They have come into the library not only to do their research and check out books, but they have also learned how to search the Internet more effectively, and how to evaluate websites.
Grade 6 Social Studies classes are finishing up their ancient civilization PowerPoint presentations.  The ELA classes are scheduled to come in to learn about Book Talking.  The students will read early chapter books, and then prepare and give book talks to the elementary students at Mary Rowlandson.  This should get everyone excited about reading.
