MATHCOUNTS is a national math coaching and competition program for 6th, 7th and 8th graders that is sponsored by NASA, CNA Foundation, National Society of Professional Engineers, and others. We have had successful teams compete admirably in the regionals and we are looking for new members to add depth and to compete alongside those who are in seventh and eighth grades this year. We plan to meet weekly on Mondays after school until 4pm. If you are unable to attend the initial meeting and/or want more information, contact Mrs. Paula Backiel, Mrs. Meg Chase or Dr. Mel Govindan at 978-365-4448.
Dr. Govindan will continue to coach the mathletes along with Mrs. Vasanthi Nagareddi. He may also be contacted by e-mail at govindan@verizon.net. This year we will have a nominal registration fee of $25 to cover the cost of team T-shirt and refreshments. If this becomes an impediment for your participation in the program, please contact Mr. Perkins. Please bring this signed permission form and arrange to be picked up at 4 pm.

My son/daughter, ______________________ has permission to attend the MATHCOUNTS program and weekly meetings during the 2007-08 academic year. I understand that the coaches are volunteering their time and we will ensure that my child will show utmost respect to their authority. If, for any reason, the coaches feel that my child is becoming a disruption to the program, he/she will be not be able to continue in the program. Furthermore, I understand that my child would have some additional Mathcounts homework to be done weekly and I will encourage him/her to complete these homework assignments. I will provide transportation at 4 p.m..
