LBMS Winter Concert: Tuesday, December 17th - 6:30PM (Snow Date: Thursday, December 19th)

LBMS Spring Concert: Thursday, April 9th - 6:30PM

Memorial Day Parade: May 25th - time TBA - All band students are expected to attend and perform.

Concert Band is Luther Burbank's curricular ensemble, rehearsing during the school day. The Grade 6 Band and Grade 7/8 Band perform in a Winter and Spring Concert, Memorial Day Parade, have the opportunity to participate in "Nashoba Band Day" in the fall, and compete at Great East Music Festival in the spring (7th and 8th grade). Concert Band is open to students who play traditional band instruments and focuses on Classical Concert Band and Marching Band repertoire.

Jazz Ensemble:

Tuesdays 2:15-3:00

In Jazz Ensemble, students have the opportunity to explore one of the only styles of music that is uniquely American. The ensemble sets up as a traditional "Big Band," but is open to students who play nontraditional jazz instruments as well. Students study a mix of well-known charts, improvisation, jazz technique, and tunes arranged for Big Bands. Jazz Ensemble is open to any student who plays an instrument at 6th grade proficiency.

Wednesdays 2:15-3:00

In Chorus, students have the opportunity to learn how to sing in a healthy manner and join in the making of music with their peers. Repertoire spans a wide variety, including jazz, folk, classical, and even pop! Chorus at LBMS is a unique ensemble as it is encouraged for any student who has never been part of an ensemble before (or even never sung before!) as well as seasoned vocalists. The "come one, come all" attitude allows us to create a safe space to join together and create something greater than ourselves.  “If you can talk, you can sing!”

Wind Ensemble:

Tuesdays 3:20-4:30

Wind Ensemble is Lancaster's HONORS ensemble. Students in this ensemble are active members of their grade level Concert Band and are driven, high achieving in music, and seeking a challenge. The Wind Ensemble is our only auditioned ensemble. Students should audition based on their own desire to push themselves and challenge their musical skills.

Students in grades 5-8 Concert Band at MRE & LBMS are eligible to audition for the Wind Ensemble

** Auditions take place in Sept./Oct. of each year. **

Audition Requirements:

  • One selection (12-18 measures) demonstrating the musicians’ highest skill level. This may be from a band piece or solo piece.
  • Two major scales (1 octave each) of the musicians’ choosing.

As members of an HONORS ensemble, accepted Wind Ensemble musicians will be expected to…

  • Be a member of their own grade level Concert Band
  • Be a leader in behavior, musicianship, and overall character in their grade level Concert Band
  • Strive for musical excellence and demonstrate this in at-home practice
  • If in 7th or 8th grade, participate in Jr. District Festival pre-auditions (but are not required to do so on the same instrument/voice as they are performing in Wind Ensemble)
