Three times a year, all students complete the STAR assessment — a short, adaptive test in reading and math that helps us track progress over time. It's one snapshot, not the whole picture, but it's one of the few places where we can see school-wide data all in one place. We just finished our winter round in February, and the results are worth sharing.
The headline from this winter is math growth. Here's what the data shows:
Our school-wide math proficiency reached 54%, with scores improving by more than 10 points compared to last year — the biggest year-over-year gain we've seen Our students' growth rate ranked in the top 29% nationally, which tells us the instruction happening in our classrooms is working In reading, 49% of students are at or above grade-level benchmarks, with growth that is steady and in line with national averages
While we saw strong gains in math, ELA growth was more typical this year — solid, but not the standout that math was. It's also worth noting that STAR does not assess writing, which is a significant part of our ELA program and something your child's report card and teacher feedback will better reflect. We will continue the strong instruction across all subject areas to keep moving students forward.
Teachers are now analyzing the winter results and using the data to make targeted curriculum adjustments. Students who need additional support are receiving strategic, focused attention during WINN, our school's intervention and enrichment block, based directly on what the data is showing us.
With MCAS beginning at the end of March, this data gives us confidence that students are heading into testing in a stronger place than they were last year. None of that happens by accident — it's the result of your children showing up, working hard, and the staff here investing in them every day. As always, your child's teachers are the best resource for a conversation about individual progress, and conferences this month are the perfect time for that. | | | Order your yearbook today: Go to www.coffeepond.com Password: Burbank2026 $28 if ordered before March 10, 2026 $30 if ordered after March 10, 2026

Please take advantage of this local and affordable musical opportunity for kids. The Summer Youth Band Workshop is open to all students entering grades 6-9 with at least one year experience who wish to continue to study and perform on their instrument. High school students are also welcome to join us!
Classes will run Monday through Friday from 9 am until noon and a concert will be held on Friday, July 10 at 7:30. Each day will consist of full band practice in addition to semi private instruction from a variety of different teachers specializing in woodwinds, brass and percussion.
Please fill out the attached registration form and send it in so that we can get a head count. Also, please forward the attached SYB registration form to any parents/students you think may want to join us for this fun week of music making. As we get closer to the first day, I’ll send carpool lists by town so you can help each other out with rides.
